The award intends to encourage commitment and efforts in the field of tolerance and human rights and reward those who have been active in disseminating and promoting the culture and values of tolerance and diversity. The award is also meant to challenge fanaticism and division and enhance unity and dialogue in the Arab world..
A special committee in the Arab Network for Tolerance (ANT) nominates individuals or institutions for this award. In 2009, ANT awarded its first annual prize to HE Dr. Salim al-Hoss, former Lebanese prime minister. In 2010, it was awarded to Dr. Mohammed Miftah, the Moroccan intellectual and academic for his continued contributions to disseminating the culture of tolerance in his country and the wider region.
